Government body Rums of Puerto Rico will tour four US cities next week to host tastings and pairing dinners to promote local brands.

The Taste of Rum festival will stop off at Boston, MA; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; and Washington, DC.

At each stop on the tour, 20 rum fans will be invited to a two- or three-course Caribbean meal, followed by a rum tasting led by Rums of Puerto Rico brand ambassador Ramon Diaz.

Guests unable to attend the events in person will be able to stream the sessions online.

The tour will start on 11 November at Doña Habana in Boston, before heading to New York on 12 November and Philadelphia on 14 November. The final stop will be at Cuba Libre Restaurant in Washington on 15 November.

Alexandra Salgado, director of Rums of Puerto Rico, said: “As part of the Rums of Puerto Rico programme, we focus 100% on promoting our brands in the USA.

“Every time our fellow Americans purchase a bottle of Puerto Rican rum in the US, a percentage of the collected federal taxes are refunded to support our economy.”

The government established Rums of Puerto Rico in 1948 with the goal of promoting rum made in Puerto Rico in the US, and ensuring the quality of rum made on the island.

Under the Rums of Puerto Rico programme, all Puerto Rican rums must adhere to strict legal standards including ageing for at least one year in white oak barrels, the use of continuous distillation methods and using only molasses to produce rum.
